After 13 years of classical piano study since the age of 5, Al Baes began his professional music performance journey in October, 1982 as a cocktail lounge pianist. He has studied and majored in Music in both Prince George’s Community College and at the University of Maryland, College Park, MD for a total of 6 years where he has concentrated in Jazz Studies along with an academic field.
Since 1984, he has worked with countless bands and entertainment projects in the Washington, DC. He has been a keyboard player in Pop/Variety Bands, Jazz Combos,Trios, Duos, Church Organist and Pianist where he has conducted church choirs, performing in Musical Broadway plays as an Accompanying Pianist, and concerts. He has also performed as a Lounge Pianist in hotels and private functions in the Washington, D.C. and in Miami, FL.
In 1987, which is the peak of his journey, Al performed with the University of Maryland Symphony Orchestra at the United Way Centennial Celebration at the Kennedy Center for the Performance Arts in Washington, DC. During this period, he has been with the University of Maryland Jazz Ensemble until his graduation in 1989.
2012 marks his 28th year as a professional pianist performer.
