The Barclay Brass is a brass ensemble comprised of some of Washington DC’s top musicians. Performers of the highest caliber, Barclay Brass members serve in military bands, perform in local orchestras, and freelance all over the country. From the Pope to the President, members of the Barclay Brass have performed for some of the highest profile officials and ceremonies.

These musicians created the Barclay Brass for the opportunity to perform a wide variety of classical music arranged specifically for brass instruments. For close to a decade, they have performed diverse genres of music – from patriotic and classical to ceremonial and seasonal – to audiences of all ages

Kristopher Westrich is the assistant principal trumpet with The United States Air Force Band in Washington, D.C. Before joining the Air Force, Kris freelanced and studied in Rochester, NY, Chicago, IL, and Los Angeles, CA, performing with a wide array of ensembles including the Los Angeles Philharmonic, The Chicago Symphony Orchestra’s MusicNow contemporary music program, the Rochester Philharmonic, The Chicago Philharmonic, and the Chicago Civic Orchestra. Originally from Rochester, NY, Kris earned an honor’s diploma through the Eastman School of Music’s preparatory division studying with Wesley Nance. He then went on to
earn a bachelor’s degree at Northwestern University under the guidance of Charles Geyer, Barbara Butler and Christopher Martin before earning a professional studies certificate with James Wilt at the Colburn School.

 

Amy McCabe, a resident of Washington D.C., has performed on trumpet in a variety of genres across the globe.  Amy is currently a trumpeter/cornetist in a premier military band that performs regularly at the White House and on national concert tours.  She was recently a featured solo recitalist at the International Trumpet Guild conference, the International Women’s Brass conference, a chamber recitalist at the Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic, and was a featured soloist with the National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain.  In addition, Amy has performed with the New York Philharmonic, the National Symphony, Brass Band of Battle Creek, the Monarch Brass, Seraph Brass, and was a featured soloist of the first National touring cast of the Tony and Emmy-award winning show, “Blast!.” Amy was also a member of the Chicago Civic Orchestra, a fellow at the Tanglewood Music Festival, Spoleto Music Festival, Pine Mountain Music Festival, Artosphere Festival, Disney World Collegiate All-Star Big Band, and recipient of the Roger Voisin Tanglewood Trumpet Award.  She holds a degree in elementary education from Illinois Wesleyan University studying with Steve Eggleston and Judith Saxton, and a Master’s degree in trumpet performance from Northwestern University studying with Barbara Butler and Charles Geyer.

Micah Killion has a performance degree from the Juilliard School, where he was a student of Phil Smith, and a Masters in Music Education from Teachers College at Columbia University.

As a player, he has performed in a wide variety of ensembles across the world, including the Marlboro Festival Orchestra, The Knights Orchestra, Talea Ensemble, The Colorado Symphony, The American Russian Young Artists Orchestra, City Music Cleveland, New Jersey Symphony, The Spoleto Festival Orchestra, Shakira, The Airmen of Note, Diana Ross, Father John Misty, Miike Snow, Walt Disney World’s Christmas Brass, as well as a number of Broadway pit orchestras. As a teacher, Micah has held faculty positions at Kinhaven Music School, The Juilliard Music Advancement Program, Mannes Prep, and the Third Street Music School. He has also given master classes and led workshops at a number of colleges and universities, including The University of Florida, Florida State University, Montclair State University, University of Mississippi, Utah State University, Virginia Commonwealth University, CUNY City College, Duke University, and the University of Michigan.

Micah is currently a trumpet player with the United States Air Force Concert Band, and is a Shires trumpet artist.

Nathan Clark, originally from Glen Rock, Pennsylvania, received his Bachelors of Music degree from the University of Maryland in College Park after a brief time at Nyack College and the York College of Pennsylvania. While attending these schools he had the privilege of studying with numerous renowned trumpet players including Donald Tison of the Baltimore Symphony, Thomas Smith of the New York Philharmonic, Stephen Hendrickson of the National Symphony, and Chris Gekker. He has performed with the National Symphony Orchestra, Annapolis Symphony, Fairfax Symphony, Baltimore Symphony, the New Orchestra of Washington, Alexandria Symphony, and National Philharmonic. A current member of the United States Air Force Band’s Ceremonial Brass, he also holds the position of principal trumpet in the Maryland Symphony Orchestra, Apollo Orchestra, and York Symphony Orchestra.  Additionally he is a founding member of the Barclay Brass ensemble.  In his free time, Nathan enjoys playing volleyball, climbing, running, and bike riding.
David J. Miller, originally from Chicago, studied with Thomas Ashworth while earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Trombone Performance at the University of Minnesota, and with Nitzan Haroz while he completed his Master’s Degree in Trombone Performance at Temple University. He was a member of the Charleston Symphony (SC), and solo trombonist with the Orquesta Sinaloa de las Artes  (Sinaloa, Mexico), of which he was a founding member. He was the principal trombonist of the Orquesta Sinfónica de Minería (Mexico City, Mexico). He has performed solo recitals in Poland, given master classes in Mexico City, and was the trombone instructor at the Instituto Superior de Música del Estado de Veracruz in Mexico, as well as Claflin University in Orangeburg, SC. He has performed with the Baltimore and Cincinnati Symphony Orchestras, the Kennedy Center Opera House Orchestra, the Kirov Ballet, the Pacific Music Festival Orchestra (Sapporo, Japan), as well as with the Annapolis and Delaware Symphonies. He has performed with such international artists as Jose Carreras, Arturo Sandoval, and Paquito D’Rivera. He is currently a member of the US Navy Band in Washington, DC and Co-Principal Trombone of the Fairfax Symphony Orchestra. His transcriptions for concert band have been recorded and performed on numerous tours of the US Navy Concert Band. He also arranges for The Barclay Brass, one of the premiere brass ensembles of the National Capitol Region. As an engraver and copyist, he worked for Kalmus Music, and now publishes his own arrangements at Sterling Music Editions. In 2010, the Philadelphia Orchestra performed the premiere of his critical edition of Mikhail Glinka’s Ruslan and Ludmila Overture under the direction of Charles Dutoit.
