VERONNEAU

Formed in the Washington area, Veronneau quickly gained widespread recognition for their live shows – the recognition became international with the release of their debut album Joie de Vivre – Joy of Living, released in 2011. The album went to #9 in the Jazzweek World Music chart and had extensive radio play throughout the US and Europe, leading to shows in the UK, where the band performed live on BBC Radio, and in Canada. La Mer,the 1930’s French song from the album, has become a major hit on internet radio and Youtube where it has garnered over 30,000 views.

Veronneau’s second release, 2012’s Jazz Samba Project celebrates the 50th anniversary of the landmark 1962 Stan Getz and Charlie Byrd albumJazz Samba – the recording which brought Brazilian bossa nova to world-wide attention. While their album made the Best of 2012 lists of many music bloggers and magazines, climbing to #4 on the US Roots Jazz Chart and achieving Top 10 status on many regional jazz stations, the band plunged into further exploration and research about the history and impact of Jazz samba.

The CD was launched at All Souls Church in Washington, D.C., where the historic 1962 album had been recorded. The band went on to co-curate and perform at the finale of the Strathmore Jazz Samba Project festival – a National Endowment for the Arts award winning festival of Brazilian music and arts. They produced a documentary movie about the birth of Bossa Nova with director Bret Primak  Bossa Nova – The Music Which Charmed the World, *2014) and in 2015 wrote and performed in a theatrical pieceBossa Fever, at the Atlas Performing Arts Center.

Veronneau are currently writing original material for a 2016 release and preparing a show with contemporary dance troupe Company Danzante for performance spring 2016.
